Planning PCB and Assembly Lead Times
Understand how bare-board fabrication, component procurement and assembly contribute to the overall prototype schedule.

Break the schedule into stages
PCBA lead time combines bare-board fabrication, component procurement and assembly. Treating these as separate stages makes it easier to identify which dependency is controlling the overall schedule.
Board complexity and material readiness
Layer count, special materials and manufacturing processes influence fabrication time. Component availability can be less predictable: commonly stocked parts and specialized devices may have very different procurement requirements. Material readiness therefore needs to be checked before confirming a build date.
Include assembly and verification
Placement, soldering and inspection require production capacity as well as complete materials. More demanding packages or additional testing can change the work involved. The article’s timing examples are planning references rather than a universal delivery promise; the practical schedule depends on the actual design, BOM, process requirements and available capacity.
